European Union Rep Visits Cauca, Praises Community Organizations; Will Donate € 4 Million

Henriette Geiger, the German citizen who heads the European Union’s Latin American Cooperation Unit, visited the communities of eastern Cauca, hoping to get acquainted with the projects that will receive € 4 million euros, first disbursement from the post-conflict fiduciary fund, announced in Brussels on 12 December.

“I hope that this process in Colombia is executed in a careful and participatory manner and will take seriously the underlying causes of the conflict and solve difficult issues such as land, without which you cannot achieve sustainability. […]

“The political will of all sectors is needed to achieve peace. And it’s not just about solving the difficult tasks but about healing the wounds that divided society. We cannot limit ourselves to giving out money for projects, it is important to support the political process so that peace is achieved between the different groups of the country. It is complicated for international  cooperation because these are issues that only Colombians can solve.” El Espectador
