Vatican Praises Peace Efforts in Colombia; ‘With the Help of All, Violence, Enmity and Prejudice Can Be Overcome’

The Vatican Nuncio in Colombia, Monsignor Ettore Balestrero, congratulated President Juan Manuel Santos for “his determined efforts” toward peace and said that it is good news in a world where good news are scarce, the Casa de Nariño reported today.

Balestrero highlighted “the positive developments in Colombia during 2016,” and warned that the road ahead is “complex, long and costly”, following the signing of the Peace Agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on November 24.

“Colombia is reducing poverty and, in particular, extreme poverty,” said the Vatican’s Nuncio, adding: “With the help of all, violence, enmity and prejudice can be overcome, reviving confidence in a better country and Promoting reconciliation.” El Siglo de Durango
