Security for Demobilized FARC Who Join Political Party: As Many as 1,200 Bodyguards
Some 1,200 body guards will provide security for members of the political party created by FARC once they put down their weapons, as well as for their families and for the organization’s headquarters. Many of these will be ex-guerrillas, according to the director of the National Protection Unit (UNP), Diego Mora.
In an interview with Caracol Radio, Mora explained that these security schemes will be “mixed”, so they will have UNP personnel and reincorporated FARC. Mora stressed that only people trusted by the demobilized can be join security details. However, he mentioned that “not anyone” could join, since none of these new members could have any criminal proceedings or previous convictions for crimes against humanity. El Colombiano
