A group of minors who were fighters in FARC has successfully left one of the rural areas of northwestern Colombia, the International Committee of the Red Cross said on Saturday.

A humanitarian mission consisting of the Red Cross and social organizations welcomed the group of adolescents, who were checked up by medical staff prior to their transfer to a transitional shelter center, the international organization said without further details.

This first departure of children was the result of meetings held in recent weeks between representatives of the Colombian government and FARC as part of the peace process. The authorities expect to develop several such operations in different parts of the country.Terra
