Colombia Installs the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition

The President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, signed the decrees that lead to the creation of the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition (Comisión para el Esclarecimiento de la Verdad, la Convivencia y la No Repetición), which places the victims of the armed conflict at the center of the Peace achieved with the FARC guerrillas.

“In my experience of all these years, what the victims demand most — above even reparations or justice — is the truth,” Santos said in a speech transmitted in a chain from the Historic Memory Center in Bogota.

According to the Colombian head of state, “victims want to know what happened, how it happened, when it happened, where it happened and why it happened”, so that the commissioning of the Commission will allow “to build and deliver that truth”, which is now possible to obtain thanks to an agreement to end the conflict.
