Peace Process Continues in Colombia: FARC Turns in List of 6,804 Fighters (S)
Colombia’s FARC guerrillas handed over the definitive list of 6,804 fighters concentrated in disarmament zones as part of a weapons delivery process and move to legality after signing a landmark peace agreement, the government said on Tuesday.
“This list will be submitted to a review and verification process … for the purposes of accreditation and transit to the legality of these persons,” said High Commissioner for Peace Sergio Jaramillo.
As provided by the peace agreement between the parties, FARC may include or exclude persons from this list, the commissioner said in a statement.
In compliance with the agreement signed in November and negotiated for four years in Cuba, FARC fighters are concentrated in 26 Colombian points for disarmament, a process under UN supervision and expected to be concluded by the end of May. El Nuevo Herald
