Internationalism: Colombia Creates Special Visa Category for Foreign FARC Fighters Who Wish to Remain There After Disarming (S)

Colombia has created a “special peace visa” for foreign citizens fighting alongside FARC guerrillas who want to remain in the country after the disarmament and transit to legality as agreed with the government, according to a decree known this Friday May 19, 2017. Holders of this visa must appear in the lists delivered by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the framework of the peace pact signed last November. They are eligible for “Colombian nationality” in the usual terms, said the announcement published by the Presidency. “The foreigner holding a Special Peace Resident Vsa will be authorized to exercise any legal occupation in the country, including those that are developed under a bond or employment contract. The validity of this visa will be indefinite,” the statement said. Diario El Comercio
