Intense Clashes Between Government and ELN in Antioquia; Fighter Planes Bomb Guerrilla Camp; 10 Reportedly Dead (S)
An air and ground attack by the Colombian Air Force (FAC) that included bombing an ELN guerrilla camp in the northwest of the country ended with ten deaths and three people captured, the Ministry of Defense reported.
The military offensive was carried out in the village of Bejuquillo, jurisdiction of the municipality of Cáceres, in the department of Antioquia, about 370 kilometers northwest of Bogotá.
The operation was ordered following army intelligence information about the location of an ELN (National Liberation Army) cell responsible for attacks in recent weeks in several areas of Antioquia and the neighboring department of Córdoba.
FAC planes bombed the camp at dawn today, followed by a ground assault on the camp, where three people were arrested and 10 corpses found.
